Crooked teeth or a misaligned bite can happen due to genetics and the most popular way to correct your smile is through orthodontics. Teeth alignment is commonly achieved through traditional dental braces but nowadays there are other kinds of braces, such as Invisalign. The best option is dependent on each individual’s requirements and budget, and at White Dental Clinic we can talk you through your options and come to the best suitable solution.

Dental braces are a very common way to straighten teeth and also to improve misaligned bites, treat some forms of sleep apnoea and tooth movement caused by bad habits.

Braces consist of using metal or wire brackets, wires, and rubber bands to help position and re-align your teeth to the desired position. They have numerous benefits, such as:

  • Aligning your teeth
  • Reducing grinding and chipping of teeth
  • Reducing cavities
  • Making brushing your teeth after treatment easier

Braces can be suitable for people of all ages but are commonly worn by children and teenagers to fix their dental structure. The right time to get braces is dependent on each child due to different structures and growth stages but it is generally advised to get braces between the ages of 10 and 14. While they are still growing, their teeth are more adaptive to change which will ultimately make the process quicker and less uncomfortable.

Traditional braces may be the most common option for younger family members, but Invisalign is becoming an increasingly popular choice for both children and adults. Invisalign utilises clear aligners that work as invisible braces to align teeth. Apart from being almost completely invisible, they are also removable. With no use of metal brackets or wires, your teeth are straightened through a series of custom-made, clear plastic retainers.

Both Invisalign and traditional braces come with their own benefits. Depending on the severity of each case, both treatments are reliable to straighten and improve your teeth. Here are some of the benefits you can get with Invisalign:

  • Invisible appearance
  • Minimal discomfort
  • Removable
  • Safe for all ages
  • Improved oral health
  • Easy to clean
  • No food restrictions

How does it work? Your custom-made Invisalign aligners will be produced by Invisalign from scans done by your dentist. Then when you come in for an appointment with our dentist every 4-6 weeks, we will provide you with 2-4 sets of new aligners. You will replace each one approximately every 2 weeks until you have finished your Invisalign treatment and achieved an aligned smile.
